WELCOME TO HILLYARD!!! The Hillyard district represents one of the longest standing and hardest working communities in the greater Spokane area. Today Hillyard is taking shape as the heart of Spokane's next generation of transportation. The first North-South Freeway section opened this spring - taking traffic north from Francis at Freya directly to Farwell east of H2. By the fall of 2011, the freeway will fully link H2 and also H395. Thereafter, the freeway will begin it journey south, eventually linking to I-90. To the east of the Freya / Francis corridor, the new Bigelow Gulch extension is taking shape. The first section is complete. The straightening of Biglow Gulch will increase the speed and reduce the danger of heading toward Argonne and beyond. Eventually the road will by-pass East Valley High and link directly Sullivan giving direct access to Trent and then I-90. 2009 was huge for the Hillyard District, including many major improvements. The BRAND NEW Hillyard pool and water park are now open. Repaving of Market and Havana through Hillyard is complete - including new sidewalks, lighting, curbs and bike racks. The Joe E Mann military sight is slated for possible conversion to a new alternative High School. Besides improved infrastructure there have been millions and millions in private investment in the last few years. As the new roads open, the investment is sure to accelerate.
